This is the Clover patch and a healthy spot for growing. You can pick a four leaf clover from here as well as plant the beans obtained from the Gnome.

The four leaf clover can help you at the very end of the game to ward off the Leprechauns. It's better to play music for the Leprechauns, so after collecting the clover, you won't need it further.

Planting the beans in the clover patch will cause them to grow a bean stalk, and just as in the tale, you can climb up to find a giant guarding something. After planting the beans, simply click on the stalk to begin your climb. It is very tricky getting used to climbing, so after the stalk has grown, it's a good idea to save the game.
