This is one of three troll guarded bridges. Attempting to cross any of these bridges and the troll will demand you pay him something. You can give him something and he will let you past, however, it's better to remove him from the bridge and avoid being tolled for each crossing.

To rid yourself of the troll, get the goat (in F4) and begin to cross the bridge. The troll will come out to demand payment. The goat, upon seeing the troll, will head butt him off the bridge and you won't have to deal with the troll again.

This is one of four bridges in the mainland area. The other two guarded by the troll are located in B2 and C3. The third bridge is in B3, but is not guarded (however, it doesn't get you to the Gnome island).
